Despite cramping, Glenn Maxwell hammered an unbeaten 201 off 128 balls to lead Australia to a shock World Cup 2023 victory over Afghanistan on Tuesday.
Apart from securing the Kangaroos’ place in the semi-finals, the Australian batter’s amazing performance shattered several records in cricket history.
The highest match aggregate in Australia vs. Afghanistan
Australia’s comprehensive pursuit of Afghanistan’s 291-run total, aided by Maxwell’s power-hitting, registered the biggest match aggregate in an ODI between Australia and Afghanistan.
Australia’s highest individual score
Maxwell hit an astounding double-century, with an unbeaten 201, the best individual total by any Australian hitter. The total broke the mark set by former Australian cricketer Shane Watson in a match against Bangladesh in 2011.
Australia’s largest partnership on the 8-wicket
Maxwell struck an individual double century as well as a remarkable 202-run unstoppable stand with skipper Pat Cummins on the eighth wicket in an ODI match. After Shane Warne and Paul Reiffel’s 119-run stand in the previous ODI, this was Australia’s largest-ever partnership in an ODI.
The most eighth-wicket partnership in ODI history.
The Australian pair’s 202-run partnership also shattered the record of 138 runs set by South Africa’s Andrew Hall and Justin Kemp.
